Dating app reputation management: reviews, rating and user trust

September 23, 2026 · 7 min read

People choose a dating app differently from, say, a delivery service. They entrust it with personal data, photos and chats — and often pay for a subscription. Before installing, almost everyone opens App Store or Google Play reviews; before paying, Trustpilot and Reddit discussions. In dating, rating and review tone directly affect installs and payments.

Why dating-service reputation is so fragile

In dating, unhappy users write reviews far more eagerly than happy ones. Someone who found a match simply deletes the app. Someone who met a scam profile or could not cancel a subscription goes to the store and leaves one star. Even a good product can end up with a lower rating than it deserves.

Store reviews also sit right on the app page. Users do not hunt for them: a low score and fresh negative reviews meet them before the Install button.

The most common complaints

Complaints about dating services usually repeat. That helps: you can prepare clear replies and partly fix the issues in the product itself.

Bots and scam profiles. The most common and most dangerous complaint: it hits the core feeling that real people are on the service. Reply specifically — explain moderation and how to report a suspicious profile.

Hard subscription cancellation and charges. The user does not understand how to stop auto-renewal and feels deceived. A simple instruction in the reply — and ideally a clear cancel button in the app — helps.

Account bans. The user was blocked and does not know why. A good reply explains how to appeal and does not debate details in public.

Few matches or a quiet audience in the region. Answer these honestly and talk about what is changing in the product.

How to reply in the App Store and Google Play

Developer replies are seen by everyone reading reviews, not only the author. Write for future users: calmly, without template apologies and without arguing. A good reply acknowledges the problem, explains what to do and gives a support contact.

Reply quickly to every negative review, especially fresh ones. If the issue is solved, ask the user to update the review — many do when they feel heard.

How to grow positive reviews

Happy users rarely review on their own, so ask at the right moment — after a mutual like, a good chat or a subscription renewal. Use built-in App Store and Google Play rating prompts: they follow store rules and do not annoy users.

Important: buying reviews and rating manipulation break store rules. The app can be demoted or removed. The working path is more real reviews from happy users plus fast handling of negativity.

Trustpilot, Reddit and search results

Before paying, many people check the service outside the store: they Google the app name and read Trustpilot, Reddit and niche forums. If those places are mostly complaints, they will not pay even with a high store rating. Build dating reputation across several platforms and watch brand-name search results.

Where to start

Start with an audit. Collect scores across stores and Trustpilot, list the most common complaints and see what Google shows for the app name. That audit shows where you lose users and where to begin. We do it for free: leave a request and we will send a plan for your service.
